Five painting tips to Do-It-Yourself the right way

We often hear optimism is the key to success. We have seen examples where people, with a modern touch of shades and comfort, transform their place, giving it 360-degree turn. Seeing that, you may also want to pick up the brushes and rollers, but it may not be as easy as it seems. It is even one of the two rules of remodeling, i.e., not to take it lightly.

Here are some common mistakes that can flip your plans for your walls upside down and five tips to smoothen your remodeling project in Nepal.

1. Do not settle with the small test area
Paint at least a two-foot square to see how it looks in the light with sample color first.

2. Way of choosing colors
Harmonize the colors within the home for a natural flow from room to room. While opting for whites, it is better not to use too many shades of white or cream as it may appear dingy.

3. Ignoring finishes
The paint products are not limited to just colors. There are finishes too, among which, satin finishes are best for interior walls and flat finishes for ceilings. For woodwork, go with a semi-gloss or high-gloss finish as higher the gloss, durable the paint and are easier to clean.

4. Exterior for the exterior
As exterior wall paints withstand ultraviolet rays and extreme weather, the exterior surface requires exterior paints. Do not jump with interior wall colors on the exteriors just because you had excess spare paint from the last project. Also, figure out what you are painting over and make sure you paint the same as the base paint because water-based paint does not stick over the oil-based paints or stains surfaces.

5. Prepping the wall
Once you choose the paint, prepare the wall. Fill the holes, if any, and smoothen the surface with a fine-grit sandpaper. First, prime and then paint the wall unless the paint has paint and primer in one.
